President's Report

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

What a fantastic start to the season, round 1 saw our new social Director plan a whole day for every age group to enjoy. Congratulations to Danny and his team of helpers in making this day a complete success. To all that attended I hope you have thanked Danny for all his hard work.

Ground Update
The clubs fields are still waiting on the State Government before proceeding to the next step in the replacement program. The grounds Committee have held meetings with the Council and have their full support in our endeavours, our two local MP’s are also helping to forward our case in the right area’s speaking with the sports Minister on our behalf.

Ground Use
In the mean time our grounds are again getting plenty of use, with the Australian u/19 Lacrosse team training over the Easter Long week-end, Victorian Grid-Iron training for the Nationals in Queensland, the Under18 Women’s State Titles plus the usual schools and games.

Welcome
Welcome to all the new Coaches and Players that have joined us this year, we look forward to a long and happy association with you all and hope you enjoy your time with us.

Help Required
Our tireless ground Manager is still seeking help in his quest to keep our grounds and rooms up to scratch so if you have any free time on any day especially Fridays please contact Alby Speed on 0417121588. It would also help if all those empty drink bottles and food wrappers where placed in the bins provided as they are emptied.

Events
We have some large events coming up in the next 2 months so the directors will be asking for volunteers to help out over these periods. These events bring a lot of revenue in to the club and help keep the fees down so help out as much as you can when asked.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of the season and I will see you around the Club.
Yours in Hockey
Neil Coster

Family Fund Day Thanks!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Huge Success The day was a smashing hit! In the 25 degree weather hundreds turned out to enjoy the spectacular events and activities. Although the day was intended to bring family fun to FHC to kick off round 1 and to break even. FHC made a profit close to $2000.00, thanks to the large amount of discounted & donated goods and prizes.

Stalls held on the Day BBQ, TAVERN, FAIRY FLOSS, JUMPING CASTLE, FACE PAINTING, TATTOOS, HAIR SPRAY, DEVONSHIRE TEA, SPINNING WHEEL, TV RAFFLE, LUCKY DIP, COIN TOSS

Anonomous Thanks… Many thanks go to Danny & Sally Colasurdo, Rico & Nicole Virtuoso, club members and the Board for providing a great day for the club. From the juniors perspective is was great to have the kids stay long after their game to enjoy what was on offer as it was also great for me as a coach to catch up with parents I usually just speak to for a fleeting couple of minutes prior and after games. The feedback provided by the parents (and many new to the club) was very positive and it was extremely pleasing to see kids who were there in the morning coming back in the afternoon.
Congratulations to all involved in bringing the club together as one.

TV Raffle Winner Congratulations to Elwin Davies – winner of the T.V Major Raffle

Mens News

Well the season is off and running and there have been mixed results throughout the teams.

SL2 has had a disappointing start to the season with 2 consecuive losses, but will be striving to get things back on track with a win against Melbourne High this week.
PC couldn’t have asked for a better start with 2 wins and scoring consistantly, with the mix of youth and experience paying dividends.
PD started off with a hard fought 0-0 draw with Mentone, and after considering the result last year against the same teams, this was a huge improvement. Unfortunately Rd 2 was not as forgiving going down 7-1 to TEM.
Metro 2 have had 2 narrow losses, but after coming up a grade last year, they will be looking to turn things
around quickly.
Both M3W and M3N have had strong starts to the season, both having 1 win and 1 draw. These two teams will greatly benefit from the coaching guidance of Darryl on Thursday nights and the improvement is already been
seen.

We will be setting up an umpire roster shortly, but in the mean time if you are asked to umpire please help the club out and put your hand up. There will be a watering roster also. Also for those of you who aren’t aware we have a physio who comes down to the club on Tuesday nights, so if you have a niggling injury make sure you get down to see him.

Womens News

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The season is off to a flying start with an abundance of players for all teams. We have over 60 members attending regular training – all vying for a spot in the top 4 teams. We have seen a larger number of Metro 4 players enjoying training too. This has resulted in the strengthening of all 7 teams and increased the competitiveness for spots in higher grades. We encourage all members to embrace this scenario at FHC as it is in the best interests of our club and ladies future to field the best 11 in each team each week.

SL2 Sitting 8th with 2 losses and 1 win, this team is continuing to develop and work on a new playing style.
PB 5th has had 1 win, 1 draw and a loss. Great results considering it is their first year in Pennant B after promotion last year
M1N 7th after a shaky start, they finally secured a win in round 3. Kara is working intensely with her squad.
M2N 5th after 1 loss, 1 draw and a walkover given.
M3N 1st after 3 straight wins – they already have a goal difference of +20 after a brilliant 18 – 0 win over PEGS
M4N Blue 1st after 2 wins and a draw – a fabulous start!
M4N Red 8th after 1 loss and 2 draws – keep up the great work girls!

Umpire & Canteen Rosters have been distributed – please ensure you find your name and complete your duty. Special thanks to Lisa Anderson (canteen) and Anne Robinson (umpiring) who will be coordinating the rosters, and questions – please direct to them.

Player Numbers
We are sitting right on the 200 mark for juniors playing at FHC in 2008. This represents the first time that our numbers have not grown for five or six years, and raises some questions about our pre-season recruiting. This matter will be reviewed at the Junior Division Committee mid-year review.

Some Interesting Observations
Thank you to all of the players and families whose flexibility has allowed us to fill up our blank spots in several teams for 2008. Several children have voluntarily gone to higher age groups to help our numbers out, and as we speak our teams have all achieved required player numbers. Some interesting observations are:

  • Our U15 PA team are almost all bottom-age (1st year U15) players. Extraordinary!
  • Our U13 Girls Penn team is also very young, comprising of 5 X U13, 5 X U11 players and an U9!
  • Our U9 teams are the youngest on record. Watch out for these kids in 2010!

Volunteers Required
The White and Allan families have done a great job in recent years organising our annual parents-only social function. Given their recent retirement from those duties, we are now looking for someone (small group?) to take up this initiative for 2008. Can you help?

Junior Umpires

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

A special than-you to senior player Carol Burt who has taken up a Saturday morning role mentoring our trainee U9 umpires. The kids are in very good hands! Kiosk Roster: On the back of the annual registration form there is an area that must be signed-off indicating your preparedness to work a 1 X 1 hr kiosk shift during the season (or you can opt out and not receive your $100 fee discount per child). Team managers who haven’t already organised (or delegated) their teams home match roster are asked to do so poste haste!

Congratulations

Congratulations
Well done to Heath Jackson (Coach) and his players in our U13 Nth team, who after two thumping victories have impressed HockeyVictoria to the point where they will be promoted next week up into U13 Mixed Penn Nth! Much better to be in a comp where we get competitive matches each week.

Congratulations
Well done to Les McAlinden – securing the coaching position for the U14 Wildcats side this year
