Grant Announced
The City of Maribyrnong 2008/09 budget has been announced and it contains an allocation of $207,500 towards the cost of re-surfacing our sand-filled ground at the end of the current season. FHC will match this and also contribute up to $100,000 towards the development of a specialist junior training / hit-up area to the north of our changerooms. Works will hopefully take place immediately at the end of the current winter season. Should we be successful in receiving a State Government grant that we have also sought, then we would also be re-surfacing our ‘wet’ ground this October. In that case, the total cost to FHC would be approx. $460,000.

How will we pay for this
We are able to give our kids the best facilities in Australia because of the hard work done to raise the funds required. The month of June is our main fund-raising month with the following special events occurring:
June 1-2: (Next weekend): ‘Lacrosse DownUnder’ (international tournament)
June 7-9: Vic. Country Hockey C’Ships (mens) – Queens B’Day – No club hockey
June 28-29: Junior Country Hockey C’Ships (1st weekend of school holidays)
This represents a lot of work in the kiosk, watering the ground, etc, and requires a small contribution from a lot of people. Junior families were fantastic with their contributions to the Rd 1 Family Day, and we need a couple of hours from each family again. Please contact Club Secretary Nicole Virtuoso on 0424132715 to negotiate your preferred time to help out.
Please support the raffle that is currently taking place plus the MITRE 10 promotion.

Giulia’s role is solely to scribe and update the selection sheet, assist in contacting players coming in teams, e-mailing and making sure every team has a full squad. I can always take e-mails and phone calls and you will still see me around the club! IF YOU CAN NOT PLAY – YOU MUST NOW CONTACT GIULIA A.S.A.P ON 0420904685 (nicolevirtuoso@gmail.com) or fill in the unavailable list on notice board. Giulia will be able to replace you and notify your coach/team manager of any changes.
Thank you for all your support so far this year – please continue to be diligent and make Giulia’s job easy!

SL2 sitting 9th this team continues to persevere against challenging opposition. They need to focus on gaining points from the teams in the bottom half of the season over the coming weeks. Good luck girls!
PB 7th after 1 win and 4 draws, the ladder is extremely close in this competition. A few wins would see them in the top 4.
M1N 3rd after some thrilling wins, this team has certainly pulled it together over the past few games, keep up the good work.
M2N 2nd after some great results – this team has had the most varied selection sheet of all teams and is now finally settling with consistent players
M3N 1st on the ladder, however there are a few teams hot on their heals!
Both M4 teams continue to have sufficient players (especially when players give me enough notice to replace them!) and their success is due to the consistent squads on players and the great coaching assistance they are receiving!

WIDE ANGLE LENS?
You will be familiar with the magnificent big photo of our 27 X 2007 representative players that hangs above the pavilion kiosk. Well the photographer will have his work cut out photographing the 2008 rep. players given that our current tally if 37! Added to our 6 X U18 girls that competed in the U18 Girls State C’Ships in April, an incredible 31 FHC children have been selected to represent western Melbourne in the forth-coming Victorian Junior State Championships (State Hockey Centre June 30-July 6) and it certainly would have been more if our U14 boys weren’t falling over with illnesses or injuries. A little more luck for several other boys and girls would have seen them selected also.

2008 WILDCATS
U15: Jake Bailey, Georgia Allan, Rachel Browne, Lauren Hopkins, Alexandra Leeder, Elise Messina, Holy Moore, Lexie White, and Emma Ruyg is captain of the U15 Country Cobras.

PLEASE NOTE:
School holidays are just 5 weeks away. Please note that we play on the first weekend of the hols (Frid 27 / Sat 28 June) and on the final weekend of the holidays (Frid 11 / Sat 12 July).

Trivia Night
Lack of volunteers has meant that we are unlikely to have a separate Junior Parents social function this year. Instead, I suggest that we organize a stack of tables for the Sat June 14 (7.00 pm start) Trivia Night being organized by the Rico Virtuoso – Fundraising and Promotion and Danny Colasurdo – Senior Social Secretary. I will put up a sign-up poster on the junior noticeboard, and encourage you to support this occasion. Place your names on the poster, and include any preferred seating partners if you would prefer to specify your immediate neighbors.
Entry prices are: Adults $10, Juniors $5, and tables cater for 8 people. BYO nibbles, and drinks are available at normal bar prices. Prize donations are being sought also.

Coach Support
Former Scottish international player and elite level coach Alan Stobbie is back at FHC helping coach our U15 girls, and he is prepared to help up and coming coaches where so desired. Alan was captain of combined ‘Europe’ teams three times, has coached Victorian mens and womens teams, and has coached State League premierships in Victoria. All coaches that would like Alan to look at their teams / players at training or during a match should contact Brendan and he will arrange a timetable for Alan.

Specialist Skill Training
We are currently trying to set up some elite skills clinics which will involve senior Victorian players coming to FHC to run clinics on chosen skills. The first clinic will be for penalty corner pushing-in and trapping. When confirmed, I will ask each team coach (U11-U17) to nominate a couple of people for each skill. I hope to run this first clinic before the school holiday break.

Umpires Breifing Meeting #2
All umpires of junior grades are asked to attend the second briefing meeting with HV Umpire Coach Anthony Traill at FHC (change room #1) on Wednesday 4th June from 5.30 to 6.30 pm. There will be a general discussion, Q and A, and update on a couple of rule or regulation changes. Please bring along any questions that you want Anthony to answer. For one or two umpires who have U11 training that night, please ask your coach if you could have the night off. Apologies or enquiries can be directed to Anne Robinson on 9398-0765 or 0401 142 135.
