Family Fun Day

Ground Report

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

New GroundsWe are hopefully only days away from the completion of the F2 ground, just in time for the Ladies Pre-Season Tournament next weekend. The finals lines and markers are to be cut into the ground Monday 23rd March, followed by 3 days of working the sand into the turf. Although Victoria desperately needs rain, let’s hope it can hold off until after the works are complete!

Juniors Editorial

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The junior pre-season has been a roller-coaster in that our recruiting has been outstanding (60+ recruits registered already), but our trialing and preparation of the players has been disrupted by unusual weather, long weekends, eastern ground and junior training area unavailability, senior carnivals eating into our time, school holidays about to hit, etc.

Regardless of all of these factors we will hit the ground running in time for RD 1 in three weeks time. We have again appointed an outstanding batch of junior coaches, and the work of our age-group coordinators has been magnificent over the past month.

We are about to make our debut in mixed U13 ‘A’ and U17 girls ‘A’ grade, which will give us a presence in five of the seven ‘A’ grades in 2009. Over the next two years we will hopefully jump into mixed U15 ‘A’ and mixed U17’A’ as well. There is only one other junior Club – Waverley (out of 67 Clubs playing in Melbourne) that is represented in all seven ‘A’ grades. One season at a time though!

A key goal for 2009 is to develop closer connections with senior coaches and selection panels as our huge number of talented children are being asked to take on significant senior team roles / workloads, placing growing bodies under considerable pressure. We will improve those liaisons, and the children will continue to receive safe stewardship at all levels of their FHC involvement.

Key ‘Junior’ Dates:
This Wednesday (March 25): (1) Coaches pre-season meeting (6.30), plus Mouthguard fittings at
FHC (5.30 onwards)
Wednesday April 1: Junior Committee meeting
Rd 1 = Sat April 18 (last Saturday of school hols) & Friday April 24.
Wildcats trials: Sun May 3 and 10.

Families please ensure your registration forms are completed as this ensures you are registered with Hockey Victoria and covered by Sports Cover Hockey Insurance. Hard copies to be placed in the box next to the junior notice board. Or e-mail to nicolevirtuoso@hotmail.com (if you have not received the registration form via e-mail please contact Nicole)

Ladies Editorial

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The ladies section has recruited well and the explosion of junior players wishing to play senior ladies is tremendous. At last count 120 ladies have committed to senior ladies, therefore we have entered an 8th team into Metro 4. SL3, PB, M1N, M2N M2S, M3N, M4N Blue, M4N Red. The only concern is that at present we do not have enough GK’s to fill all our teams. If you know any GK’s or are interested in putting on the pads yourself then let Nicole know!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Fidz, our Metro Training Coach and Metro 2 North Game Day coach. Fidz will be training the ladies Metro 2, 3 and 4 players every Tuesday and Thursday Night. This is the first year we have had someone able to commit to two training sessions, so we encourage as many players to turn up to training from the Metro grades to make it worth his while. If numbers drop off then it will become difficult to justify coming to coach with only a handful of girls.

Practice Matches are under way—every ladies member please check your e-mails on Wednesday to see where you have been selected and FOR EVERY PRACTICE MATCH AND FOR ROUND 1—every member will need to reply to that e-mail to confirm you are playing.

IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE UNAVAILABLE—PLEASE LET NICOLE KNOW A.S.A.P – preferably before Tuesday night selection. 0424 132 715 nicolevirtuoso@hotmail.com

Ladies Pre-Season Pack Typo

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Apologies—there is a typo in the Ladies Pre-Season information pack. Easter Thursday there will be no training Thursday 9th April. NOT 16th April as stated in Info Pack.

Junior Umpires Wanted

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

whistleWe have a shortfall of umpires for some junior grades on Friday nights. This is because the grade is beyond the capability of our junior umpires (most are under 15 years old) or because siblings will have fixture clashes some weeks. We are seeking some generous senior ladies or men who might be out there who would commit to a team – U17 mixed and U15 girls each week; U13 A, U13 mixed some weeks. Some grades also will get a HV assigned umpire depending on the fixture. Support is available if they have not umpired much before, plus free umpire kit of shirt, whistle, rule book, cards and notebook and pencil.
Please contact Anne if you can assist. garobinson@optusnet.com.au 0417 313 658

Uncle Bob's Club – Helpers Wanted

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

I presently hold the position of State Secretary of the Uncle Bobs Club. Not many people have heard of us but we are a charity that raises money for sick and disabled children in Victoria. We are also heavily involved with the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. We have been allocated two corners in Williamstown Road to collect at on Good Friday and would greatly appreciate some assistance with tin rattling on the day. We have corner captains who look after the volunteers and we supply all the equipment, the only requirement is that they need to be 16 or over and willing to help. Would it be possible for this to be forwarded to the club members the corners are manned from about 9am to 4pm but even just a few hours at some stage throughout the day would be appreciated. If anyone is interested they can contact me on 5321 6410 (W) or 0417 534 100 or by e-mail jtraill@hepburn.vic.gov.au

Mens Editorial

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Season 2009 looks like it’s going to be a very successful one for Men’s side of the club. We have had record numbers attending our pre-season training and all players that have been attending are keen to make amends for last year’s results, a true testament to the club’s motto ‘pride and loyalty’. We have also picked up a few new recruits over the summer, most of which will feature in our top 3 sides, with these new players and the return of Alex Grosz from the UK, the depth of the top 3 sides has been increased dramatically, which in turn will only strengthen our Metro sides.

FHC is hosting its inaugural State League Men’s Pre-season Tournament on the 4th & 5th of April, with 12 teams & $500 up for grabs it should be a very competitive and exciting tournament. We ask you to support this tournament by volunteering your time to help with the running of it and of course by supporting our club! The State League Sponsorship program has also been very successful in its first year, all men’s members will benefit from this program in some way in 2009. Every men’s member is invited to try and get a $250 sponsor, if so you will receive $75 off your fee’s and a new playing shirt! Sponsorships must be received in full by the 27th of March to be eligible for the sponsors draw. Please contact me if you require further information about this program (tom.griffin@buchan.com.au)

Finally it is also with great pleasure I can announce Peter Grosz as the SL3 team manager and Steve Carew as the PC team manager. We are still currently looking for a manager for our PE team, if this role interest you please contact me.
