Marianne Fridell (nee Weston), known as “Fridell” will celebrate her 500th game this weekend Round 14, 12.30pm Sunday 1st August at Footscray.
A teacher at Footscray High School introduced Marianne to hockey when she was in Year 12. Marianne enjoyed the sport so much that when she left school in 1966 she joined the local club, Footscray Hockey Club. Her playing career at Footscray marked the 500th senior game in round 14, made up of 400 senior women’s matches and 100 winter veterans matches. Between 1985 and 1998 Marianne played at PEGS Hockey Club, another 250 senior games. Marianne’s commitment to hockey has included umpiring and coaching as well as playing summer, winter, mixed, veterans and masters competitions.
Since returning to Footscray Hockey club in 1999 she has played in three successful premiership teams (2002, 2004 and 2005). Marianne enjoys playing against people closer to her own age, in Veterans and Masters competitions, but she also loves her club hockey because she plays with people of all ages and from many different backgrounds. Marianne states “It helps to keep me feeling young and alert. (Although chasing fast, young opponents is more likely to make me feel very old!)”
Marianne would like to thank all the members of Footscray Hockey Club, past and present, for making her hockey so much fun.

Marianne
This is a brilliant effort – well done.
And lets not forget all your “Hockey Groupie” trips interstate and abroad.
I’n sure there are a lot of girls at Footscary who are playing thanks to your efforts in encouraging and coaching.
Best wishes for Sunday
Judy
