Women’s Round 14 Results

State League 1 (4) def Altona (1) Goals: A Turnbull, L Merrett, E Fithall, E Robinson After our disappointing draw against Waverly last week we trained the house down all week. With our next game against cross town rivals, Altona, it was a do or die game for us as we need to win all our games to, dare I say it, make the finals. Last week left our squad a player short with Megan Berriman sustaining a knee injury that will have her out for the rest of the season. Our young back line was given the challenge to stand up today and right from the start they played with poise and composure. Our midfield helped to make the back line’s life easier with great support and we started to get some great run from our forwards to help us break into the circle. Not long after we earned our first corner, which was converted by Amy Turnbull, the Doggies had a one nil lead. Five minutes later our mid field punched through Altona’s midfield to earn another corner that was converted by Leah Merrett to give us a two nil lead. The game went into a mid-field battle with our back line mopping up any stray Altona break-aways. A couple of great saves from goal keeper Penny Mather shut the door on Altona and allowed Footscray to...

Once at the ground I knew we were in for a funny day. The first two team mates I seen were Hoppo and Volta in the canteen looking dazed and confused due to inhaling the fumes from the dim sim and hot dog steamers. Slowly but surely we all started arriving Jerry was down from the bush, Robbo with a dart in hand was a picture of fitness, the hand of god strode in like he was meaning business after missing last week due to a dress up party. Toma and machine chatting casually with Glen looking like he had to have a harness on to be restrained such was his readiness. Then there was Myles, when quizzed why he was wearing red socks he gave me a response which I have never heard in my life. “I was heating up Hannah’s dinner with a hairdryer...

Women’s Round 13 Results

State League 1 (0) v Waverley (0) Next game: v Altona 2pm Saturday 28 July at Footscray Pennant B (1) def by Mentone (2) We came up against the team placed 3rd who sat 2 points ahead of us. We came out well and had them under sustained pressure. They managed one breakaway and scored, which unsettled us a bit. We got an equaliser through brilliant passing and continued to dominate possession, creating many strong chances on goals but couldn’t get it over the line again. Mentone maintained their composure throughout and stole the game in the last 5 minutes. Well done pennant b, we ran really hard but lost to a team that was stronger on the ball and maintained their structure no matter what we threw at them. Next game: v Essendon 12.30pm Saturday 28 July at Footscray Pennant C (2) def Kew (1) PC played Kew for third spot on the ladder on Saturday. It was a very tough encounter played at a frenetic pace.  Early in the game Kew had control of the ball but moving Emily in to the mid field gave us back control. We eventually came away with a 2-1 win.  The team played very well, linking up through the middle of the field to score both goals and many more opportunities.  Now we have two wins over our likely opponents in the...

With our goalkeeper choosing to put on his flat cap, lemon shirt, plus fours and high socks with diamond patterns it was going to be an interesting team that we would take to werribee. Whilst driving down the princess highway thinking of our set up I was passed by a red falcon that hadn’t be washed for many years. I thought no hurry champ but on further inspection of the back of the drivers head it was one of our own players with his curly black hair jutting out from the head rest crusty the clown style. I pulled into the car park the red falcon pulled in the door opened energy drink cans spilled out,bad music was playing and I knew Myles was in for a good game. We played 11 field players Byron was ready...
