Three wins in Round 7, with a terrific show of spirit from the Premier League Team coming back and taking a win, well done! Also well done to M1N who continue to win and remain at the top of the table having not lost a game. Particularly notable from this team is Leona Lang with a whopping goal tally of 10!

Premier League 2 def Powerhouse/St Kilda 0 Goals L Merrett 2

After last weeks loss which has hit our confidence for six, we needed to bounce back and this week we came up against Powerhouse/St Kilda who were looking for their first win. The game got underway with FHC having slight issues with the slowness of the ground which slowed down the play,  finally had some shots at goal. The team earned a corner which just missed the goals but continued to strive for the first goal and finally scored with a field goal from Leah Merrett with a scintillating shot from the top of the circle which gave the doggies a 1-0 lead. More shots were created but failed to score again in the first half. The team went into the second half with a great work ethic which allowed us to put more pressure on Powerhouse/St Kilda. Leah Merret scored again later in the second half. Powerhouse/St Kilda hit back hard and started to put pressure on the FHC back line but the defence held firm. With Megan Berriman taking a well earned break in this game to give her knee a chance to rest for next weekend, our young squad took charge and wrestled back control and created some good attacking opportunities and more shots on goals were taken but none appearing to find the backboard, but a win is a win and keeps FHC in touch with the top four. Last week the team made some silly defensive errors and  have learned from this that we can’t take the foot off the pedal at anytime and expect to win. The second half today was a true test and the team did what had to be done. The team made the sacrifices that were needed. Last week the team played bruise free hockey, not getting goal side, or doing the hard running, but this week good team hockey was displayed by FHC. Once again well led from the leadership group and everyone did their job. Next week we have a massive double header with Mentone on Saturday and Waverley on Sunday .

Pennant A 0 lost Doncaster 4

Pennant B 2 def Doncaster 1 Goals B Rowland, M Singh

The Pennant B Team played Doncaster in round 7. The FHC team wanted to make the early morning trip worthwhile by securing a win. The team started off well moving the ball around the field and making Doncaster work hard to get possession of the ball. FHC put the pressure on and managed to score a goal with a great tomahawk from Brietta Rowland. Doncaster converted a short corner with an unstoppable deflection drawing the score. After half time FHC lifted the game and continued to link up passes and talk. The final and winning goal came from Monica Singh who managed to collect the ball from behind the defensive 25 and carry the ball beating a number of players before finally placing the ball beautifully past the goalie straight into the backboard. From this position FHC maintained composure and possession to come out victorious 2/1.

 Metro 1 North 4 def MCC 1 Goals R Grey, R Humphrey, L Lang, A Sheehan

On Sunday against the equal top side, MCC, M2N  played the best game of the season. Plenty of opportunities to score were presented and the team did not concede a penalty corner all game. It was a bit unlucky to concede a goal 5 seconds before half time when the team just relaxed a bit after going 2-0 up. Overall, an excellent performance. Everybody contributed! Well done. There is one more game before a well-deserved break. Let’s keep the excellent record going.

Metro 1 South 1 drew Melbourne Uni 1 Goal R James

Metro 1 South drew 1 all with Melbourne Uni this weekend. The team played a good game and made use of the space that was granted. It was great to see the team use some tactics we have discussed at training. A massive team effort in the ‘D’, with Rebecca James scoring a fantastic goal in the middle of a hectic moment of hockey. Well done all.

Metro 2 North 1 lost Brunswick 6 Goal M Sanders

Metro 2 South 0 lost MCC 7

FHC began the game one short, missing 5 of their key regular players and many playing in unfamiliar positions, so it was an uphill battle from the on-set.  FHC fought hard to defend the goal for the major part of the first half, but once MCC were 2 goals up it spurred them on to try even harder crushing FHC to a half time score of 5-0 with 3 injuries; one significant enough to bench a player at half time. FHC played the second half with only 9 players and played some amazing hockey, with every player putting in some exceptional individual efforts. MCC did score 2 more goals from short corners, but FHC were by no means disgraced having several great runs that were very promising, especially for a side that had been thrown together. Well done for the great fight in the second half team!
