Another double header this weekend had the FHC top teams working very hard no doubt. Round 13 and Round 21 are complete. Three of the nine teams are currently in the top four, with M1N in the top spot, M2S holding second position and PB number four on the ladder.

Premier League 1 lost Essendon Ladies 5 Goal L Merret

Another big game for the young doggies against a top four side would ensure we see how the player development is coming along . A nervous looking FHC team in the first half were struggling to match Essendon’s strength for the 50/50 balls and went into half time 0-2 down. The team started the second half better and struggled to convert corners but a great run from Captain Leah Merrett who finished off in style, showed our younger players how important strength on ball matters and scored a blistering shot to the top right hand side of goals. The scored stayed the same way for a while but Essendon scored two late goals in the last few minutes to win 1-4.

Premier League 0 drew Camberwell 0

Another tightly fought battle with both teams having several opportunities to score. Unfortunately the team did not capitalise on the opportunities. Another great defensive effort from our team. Best players were Kaitlin Grimaldi, Jess Snaize and Lisanne Lamers.

Pennant A 1 lost Camberwell 2 Goal N Virtuoso

Pennant A put in a great effort today, CHC got the points but FHC played better hockey. FHC were 100% better in everything we did in comparison to when the team played them in round 1. The implementation of the PRESS was excellent, the marking good and the movement of the ball was up there. That is what it’s all about, learning from mistakes, improving and not repeating them. The team did just that, in great fashion. Well done!

Pennant B 0 lost MUH 3

Pennant B faced Melbourne Uni, the top of the table team this week. The MUH team were fast and played a good game which was unfortunately too strong for FHC. The score at half time had MUH in the lead 1-0. FHC was encouraged at half time to use short passes and refrain from hitting the ball up the centre of the field, but under pressure the team failed to follow the advice and some quick passing from MUH resulted in another two goals for the opposition. The final score 3-0 to MUH. The Pennant B team have to pull together, play hard and play as a team to remain in the top four.

Metro 1 North 3 def Sunshine 1 Goals R Grey 2, L Lang

On a chilly Sunday afternoon at FHC, the Metro 1 North team went down a goal early in the game. This served as a bit of a wake up call for the team, who quickly got three goals on the board to head into the second half with a comfortable lead. Sunshine played a very defensive game, and hit the ball down the ground as much as possible from free hits, so the midfield were having trouble getting into the game. However, we also struggled to spread the ball ourselves and endured a frustrating, scoreless, second half. So we take the win and move on to next week!

Metro 1 South 3 def Hawthorn Goals K Clark, A McTigue, K Murphy

Metro 2 North 3 def Werribee 0 Goals S Blake, P Cameron 2

Metro 2 South 1 def Mornington Peninsula 0 Goal M Di Benedetto

Chloe Ong celebrated her 18th birthday and led the team onto the field as captain for the day! It was a hard fought game from start to finish, but FHC scored midway through the second half and managed to stave off any attack from MOR. This win solidly firms our position in the top 4, well done team for maintaining the contest for the whole game!
