With only two rounds left in the 2013 season the FHC Women’s team have done well with finals locked in for M1N and M2S. PB and M2N are in the top four and will need to play well as they attempt to secure a spot in the finals.

Premier League 1 lost Doncaster 2 Goal S Ellis

To keep the teams finals chances alive a win was needed against a star studded line up from Doncaster. The first half got underway with both teams making good forward attacks. FHC had some attacking corners that left Doncaster flat footed but the goals were just missed. A break down in communication and team rules allowed Doncaster to score a lucky goal. The FHC PL team came out in the second half and dominated from the start with Doncaster unable to get ball out of the defensive end apart from hits to no one. FHC leveled the score one all with Sam Ellis scoring off a keeper rebound in a attacking corner and pressing hard for the second goal. Unfortunately FHC conceded a goal and ran out of time. The positives to take from the game is that the team out played Doncaster for the majority of the match but failed to take the chances when they were presented.

Premier League Reserves 1 lost Doncaster 3 Goal C Duggan

Pennant A 1 lost Doncaster 6 Goal C Chatterton

Pennant B 1 def Doncaster 0 Goal N Virtuoso

A frenetic first five minutes from FHC settled into a strong game as the Pennant B team welcomed back their mojo and success. Kat Lavars returned to the field after coming home with gold from an international hockey event and brought with her some oomph and determination to the front line. Filamena Bruce played a rocking game holding the team together and fighting strongly for every ball. The teams drive and skill level won the game with a magnificent tackle and steal performed by Carrol Burt who the fed the ball to a fired up Brietta Rowland who then crossed the ball beautifully for Nicole Virtuoso to slam in the goal. A couple of shots from Doncaster were a little too close for comfort but importantly not in the net. FHC came out on top with 1-0 win. The Pennant B team hold position 3 on the ladder.

Metro 1 North 2 def MCC 0 Goals L Lang 2

FHC and MCC played for top position on Saturday. The FHC team played an excellent game, working hard both ways, defending and working hard when they did not have the ball, and putting in second and third efforts to win the ball in dispute. Well done to all on an excellent team effort. Let’s make sure we bring that level of intensity to the last two games of the season against lower ranked opponents to ensure we finish the season on top.

Metro 1 South 1 lost Melbourne Uni 3 Goal A McTigue

Metro 2 North 0 lost Brunswick 4

Metro 2 South 3 def MCC 2 Goals H Hage, R Holland, J Mutsaerts

FHC were caught off guard in the first two minutes and conceded an early goal, but to their credit, they fought back hard to level the score mid-way through the first half. MCC had another surge penetrating the defence once more, but once again, FHC bounced back, this time with a quick response, levelling the score at 2 all for the half time break. Both teams came out with renewed vigour and the second half was a tug of war that appeared locked to the finish, until a clever short corner form FHC broke the grid-lock and brought the FHC team home victorious! FHC now replace MCC in second position on the ladder and have secured our place in the top four, great job team, bring on the finals!
