The 2013 season has finished and now we head into the finals. Well done to every FHC member and your effort with your team this year. Great big congratulations to M1N with an outstanding season finishing on top of the ladder and gaining a promotion to Pennant C after one season in M1N. Final positions on the ladder:

Premier League 5th
Premier League Reserves 9th
Pennant A 8th
Pennant B 4th
Metro 1 North 1st
Metro 1 South 8th
Metro 2 North 5th (equal points to 4th, a goal difference)
Metro 2 South 2nd
Metro 3 North 8th

Good luck to the teams in the finals, PB, M1S and M2S.

Finally, a brief mention of the Women’s Masters Teams of 2013. The Women’s Masters 35+ A Grade finished 8th, not a bad effort considering the scurrying made to have a full team each week in the early part of the season. Great work Women’s Masters 35+ B Grade, who take to the finals in the coveted top spot and play in the semi finals Wednesday 28th August at 7:30pm at Altona.

ROUND 18: Premier League 6 def PHSK 1 Goals O Colasurdo 2, S Ellis,G Hopkins, C James, H McAlinden

The FHC PL team got off to a flying start earning four corners in the first few minutes of game which gave us a false sense of security. PHSK scored first with some luck as one of our defenders slipped over in our defensive corner. We hit back late in half with Hayley McAlinden scoring a fantastic deflection. Some very stern words at half time hit home and the team came out firing. PHSK did not get a shot in the second half. We missed easy chances in the second but it was Bethany Russ leading the way setting up Sam Ellis for a fantastic goal to give us the lead. Bethany Russ then earned a corner which was converted by Georgia Hopkins. Carly James made there defenders look second rate after eliminating all three and then the keeper and Olivia Colasurdo converted a corner that broke down and scored a field goal as well late in game with a rocket of a shot to give the doggies a 6-1 win.

ROUND 20: Premier League 4 drew TEM 4 Goals O Colasurdo, S Ellis 2, A Ochsendorf

The PL team had a lot of trouble with the ground and basic skills suffered and we had trouble linking up passes which allowed TEM to break into our circle and score first half way through the first half. Defensive errors and our inability to get to contests first allowed TEM to score again, 0-2 at half time. We rallied in the second half and hit back with Sam Ellis hitting home a goal from a corner but once again our skill level with ball was not clean enough and we coughed up two more weak goals. Slight change with our positions on the pitch and we rallied late with three late goals to level game. Two more minutes and we have won but game ended in a 4-4 all draw.

ROUND 18: Premier League Reserves 0 drew PHSK 0

ROUND 20: Premier League Reserves 1 lost TEM 2 Goal

Pennant A 2 lost Mentone 7 Goals C Di Dato, Z Killeen

Pennant B 1 lost Mentone Goal F Bruce

A strong game was played for the final round but unfortunately the goal power was not enough. The FHC PB team failed to convert a number of well earned short corners, while Mentone managed to convert the few corners they were awarded. So Mentone went home victorious 3-1, but the FHC PB team still have a place in the finals.

Metro 1 North 12 def Yarra Valley 0 Goals K Farrell 3, R Grey 2, L Lang 3,H McMahon, J A Sheehan, E Williams 2

A great win from the M1N side which resulted in top spot on the ladder and a promotion to Pennant C. The team came to the game with the right attitude and played like a top side. 6 goals first half and 6 goals for the second half. The team ran hard and created lots of opportunities which, we can tell by the score line, came off. A big thank you to Pat for coaching the M1N team this year. His coaching has made this team very enjoyable to play in. We hope to make him proud in the coming weeks.

Metro 1 South 1 lost Kew 3 Goal S McTigue

Metro 2 North 1 def Knox 0 Goal F Elith

Metro 2 South 4 def Mentone 1 Goals T Bezzobs 2, C Ong, J White

FHC came home with a convincing win to snatch second spot on the ladder. The forward line were on fire led by an inspiring effort from Tania Bezzobs. It was another fantastic team effort to put us in a great mind-set as we prepare for the finals. I am extremely proud of my bunch and I know that each one will give their all for the finals; leading this group of women is an honour!
