Congratulations Vic U21′s with Footscray’s Penny Mather in the squad!

Penny played the entire Round 1 and Round 2 Match and 10 minutes in Round 4 which is excellent game time for the 2nd goal keeper in the U21′s squad. Ashleigh Wells, who is FHC’s GK trainer, was recovering from an injury prior to the tournament and was in doubt for the first few matches. Penny was required to play all the practice matches prior to the tournament.

Sportscover Victoria have completed an Under 21 Championship double, defeating the homeside (QLD) in the Grand final on Saturday.
Victoria came into this fixture as the underdog, following a 3-0 defeat to QLD in round 6 of the tournament but it was the Vics who scored first through goal-scoring machine Tegan Purser in the 22nd minute.
Holding a narrow lead, Victoria opted to play a defensive brand of hockey and went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
The second half saw QLD create numerous chances as the Vics continued to stand tall in defence.
Time was running out for the home side but a 60th minute penalty corner conversion saw the scores back at level pegging, much to the home crowd’s delight.
In the dying seconds of the game Victoria’s Michelle Tuhan made the most of a goal scoring opportunity to put the Vics in front to win the 2010 Australian Under 21 Women’s Championship.
The championship win is Victoria’s second in as many weeks, following the Under 21 Men’s victory in Melbourne.

Sportscover Victoria has defeated SA to gain a finals birth against Queensland in the 2010 Australian Under 21 Women’s Championship in Brisbane, QLD.
The Vics game into this fixture with plenty of confidence having beaten SA 5-1 in round 5 of the championship and it only took 15 minutes for Victoria’s Darcie Filliponi to make the most of a penalty corner, giving the Vics and early lead.
However SA hit back almost immediately to level the scores at one a piece.
The game was in the balance for the remainder of the first half with both teams creating attacking chances and it was the Vics who took a narrow lead into half time when striker Tegan Purser scored in the 27th minute.
Victoria took on a defensive approach to the second half, desperate to hold onto their lead and when Michelle Tuhan put the Vics two goals up in the dying minuets the game was beyond doubt. The Victorian’s running out eventual 3-1 winners.
Victoria will face the home side Queensland in Saturday’s final after QLD won in extra time against NSW.
Round 7
U21G def WA 2-1 and finished the round robin in first place. They play 4th team South Australia in the Semi Finals on Friday.
Resuming from a disappointing 3-0 loss against Queensland on Tuesday, the Vics started strongly in this affair and scored early through Tegan Boucher in the second minute.
However, it only took WA 10 minutes to level the scores when their captain Kate Denning converted a well-planned penalty corner.
With the scores locked at one a piece, both teams created plenty of attacking chances and it was Victoria that made the most of a penalty corner in the 48th minute to take a narrow lead.
WA continued to press but the Victorian defence was solid enough to hold off an attacking WA outfit late in the game.

The Sportscover Victorian Women’s Under 21 team are on top of the table following an impressive win against a previously undefeated South Australian outfit.
Victoria came into this match after winning their previous two games in the tournament and two field goals in the first half (T. Purser and T. Boucher) saw the Vics lead 2-0 at the break.
The Vics continued to create plenty of chances after half time and stretched their lead out to three when Michelle Tuhan scored in the 58th minute.
Georgina Kiel restored some home for SA through a handy PC conversion in the 58th minute but it was Victoria who finished stronger, scoring two of their own late in the second half to secure a 5-1 victory.
Monday July 26 is a rest day.

The Sportscover Vics have bounced back impressively with a gritty 1-0 win against NSW in the 2010 Australian U21 Women’s Championship in Brisbane (Queensland) on Thursday.
The only goal of the game came from Victoria’s Hayley Padget in the 13th minute as Victoria held on for a tough 1-0 Victory.

SPORTSCOVER VICS SUFFER DISAPPOINTING LOSS
Tasmania 3 def. Victoria 1.
Victoria has suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss against Tasmania in round 2 of the 2010 Australian Under 21 Women’s Championship in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Victoria came into this game following a round 1 victory against ACT but it was Tasmania who looked the stronger team early in this clash, gaining the early advantage.
Victoria should have equalised shortly after but two disappointing and costly errors allowed Tasmania to build a 3-1 lead.
It’s back to the drawing board for Victoria as they prepare to face NSW at 11:00AM local time in Brisbane on Thursday.

Three early goals in 10 minutes was enough to see Sportscover Victoria open their account with a 3-0 win over ACT in the 2010 Australian Under 21 Women’s Championship in Brisbane on Tuesday.
The game was evenly matched throughout but it was difficult for ACT to find a way back after Victoria scored thrice in quick succession early in the game.
“The result sounds good but we had a purple patch and slotted three quick goals early in the first half. We need to be better tomorrow (Wednesday) if we want to beat Tassie”, said Josh Burt – Victoria’s coach.
