Uncle Bob's Club – Helpers Wanted
Monday, March 23rd, 2009I presently hold the position of State Secretary of the Uncle Bobs Club. Not many people have heard of us but we are a charity that raises money for sick and disabled children in Victoria. We are also heavily involved with the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. We have been allocated two corners in Williamstown Road to collect at on Good Friday and would greatly appreciate some assistance with tin rattling on the day. We have corner captains who look after the volunteers and we supply all the equipment, the only requirement is that they need to be 16 or over and willing to help. Would it be possible for this to be forwarded to the club members the corners are manned from about 9am to 4pm but even just a few hours at some stage throughout the day would be appreciated. If anyone is interested they can contact me on 5321 6410 (W) or 0417 534 100 or by e-mail jtraill@hepburn.vic.gov.au
2009 News
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009Hello to all FHC Vets, my name is Mark Stephens (Stevo) and I am the new FHC Vets Coordinator for 2009. I have been a playing member at Footscray for about 26 years, (600 games) 4 or 5 years as a junior, then a break, then returned to the club as a senior player and junior coach, about 22 years ago. I have been playing vets hockey for about the last 12 years, for 8 of those years I have been a state representative.
This year is the 75th anniversary of the Footscray Hockey Club, and what a year it promises to be. There will of course be some changes and celebrations, new club shirts (see comments below), and hosting of the 2009 National Vets Championships, so stay tuned to get all the details as they become available.

National Vets Hockey championships
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009The 2009 National Vets Hockey championship is scheduled to be held at Footscray during late September early October. 65 teams will compete in this year’s carnival so a lot of work will need to be done over the next few months. As details become more final a lot of manpower will be required to get things done, all vets I will be calling upon you all to give whatever time you have available, to support the club……..and make this tournament a huge success.
Training + Practice Matches
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009There is no specific training for Vets members, however Vets Men are welcome to train Thursdays 7.00-8.30pm. Vets Ladies are welcome to attend 7.00pm – 8.30pm on Tuesdays.
There will be some practice matches and some vets training prior to the start of the season for the 40’s and 50’s men. You will be notified when this is happening.
Injuries
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009If you are injured during trainings or a game please gain a Sportscover Claim form at www.hockeyvictoria.org.au
Please e-mail or provide the paperwork to Nicole Virtuoso nicolevirtuoso@hotmail.com, who can sign the forms and the authorised office bearer of FHC.
If injured during a game please make sure it is also written on the team sheet & signed by the umpire.
Club Duties – Canteen + Watering Roster
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009Every senior Vets player will be required to do 3-4 duties of either canteen duty or watering duty. If you are associated with the Mens or Ladies section duty roster, you will not be given double duty if you are playing Vets!
You may not be aware that every year the canteen/bar (through normal match day and tournaments) raises enough money to subsidise every player’s fees by $100.
A few 1.5 hours canteen or watering duty is not much to give up considering it saves you $100!
You will be given a roster or notified of your duty time, if you cant make your scheduled time, please arrange a swap or an alternative time. The rosters are monitored closely. Please make sure you complete your duties this year!
If you do not wish to do any of your duties, the Club’s Board of Management will allow any member to opt out of their commitment this year (of coarse meaning that they would not receive the $100 fee subsidy that the canteen operation allows us.) If you would prefer not to contribute to canteen or watering duty please let Nicole know.
