Lights Camera Action and a Penalty Stroke
Round 6 Vets C Grade Footscray VS Melton, back line Phil McAlinden half line Les McAlinden forward line Wayne McAlinden. Three McAlinden`s in the one side, 18 years difference between youngest and eldest. This is a club first, three brothers playing in the one Vets side. A McAlinden reunion and friends (about 100 people) witnessed the three brothers play together. For the first and last time the Footscray boys started very well with 11 on the ground and 6 on the bench, that worked well until the opposition worked out we were playing with 17 players. In the second half Footscray played well scoring two goals to nil. With only seconds to go the home team penetrated the circle once again when the ball hit a foot on the goal line resulting in a penalty stroke. Playing in his last game it was only fitting that Wayne take the stroke. Top left top right, what side to go the keeper had no idea? The power of the stroke, bottom left and goal. 3 nil win to Footscray and Wayne had scored his last goal in hockey. Congratulation’s to the Wayne, Phil and Les.
