State League 2 (1)  lt Altona (5) Goal ?

An amazing season to finish 6th in our first year of SL2, however disappointment as we finished 2 points out of the finals. A very positive future for our firsts ladies team!

Metro 1 North (1)lt Camberwell (2) Goals M La,  N Bloomfield

A very important game for Camberwell – if they won they would secure 4th spot. For FHC a few players out and fending for themselves – the result of this game would not change the 1st spot on the ladder. Not the teams’ best day, however the determination to re-group and play well in finals.

Metro 1 South (1) lt TEM (2) Goal Ruth Torr

This team required a win to secure a finals berth and the team tried their best and had control of the game – unable to convert. A disappointing end to the season – however 5th place a remarkable;e effort considering the promotion from Metro 2 in 2009.

Metro 2 North (2) drew Werribee (2) Goals L Schwartz, C Pugh

The girls were eager for their re-match against Werribee 2nd’s having beaten them in the first round.  The game started off fairly even but Werribee broke through early on to put one on the board.  This was followed a little while later with a second goal although the girls were not playing badly.  The Footscray team that went back out on to the field for the second half were a completely different team, they moved the ball around, aggressively tackled at every opportunity and defended extremely well outside the ‘D’.  With their younger legs, they had Werribee huffing and puffing and with a wonderful cross to the top of the circle by our youngest player, Bella, Leah put the ball into the net.  The next goal came with a scramble in front of the Werribee goal with Chelsea making the best of the situation and scoring.  From then on it was attack after attack, short corner after short corner which had Werribee reeling, but Werribee’s defence held strong which is why they are 4th on the ladder.  All the girls performed strongly throughout the game and I am really splitting hairs here, but, special mention for Katie Jones, Stephanie Thompson, Felicity Gates and Olivia Clay.

Metro 3 North (5) def Melbourne Uni (2) Goals K Vaina, G Cutrale, K Oataway, S Thompson, H McAlinden

A good win against second placed team Melbourne Uni who FHC will meet in the first final. The girls finished 1st on the ladder.

Metro 3  South (5) def Mornington (1) Goals

Needing a win to make 4th spot this team came our firing on all cylinders and converted early – breaking the Mornington team. Subsequent goals allowed the team to relax and enjoy the win adn cruise into 4th spot!

Metro 4 North Red BYE

The team needed a win to make the finals and MCC came with a strengthened side. A thrilling and high scoring last game. Well done to the girls for a great season.

JUNIORS

School Sport Victoria is inviting applications from teachers interested in
being part of a Hockey Sub Committee in their region.
Open to Primary and Secondary Teachers who have hockey experience or
expertise. Successful applicants will work closely with Hockey Victoria and
SRV to strategically guide future directions of hockey within one of the
nine DEECD regions.

WOMEN

State League 2 (1)  lt CV Blazers (3) Goals

Although the State League girls have exceeded all expectation in 2010 season by avoiding relegation – and then to go far beyond that and be sitting in 4th spot after 16 rounds is a tremendous effort. However the spirits were dampened by the most disappointing game of the year from our State League girls who were looking positive towards a finals campaign. CV Blazers, the 10th placed side came out firing and played a solid game to take the win off our girls. Shattered by the result – the girls must re-group and play the best game of the season against top side Altona in round 18. Together with that we will need to rely on a few round 18 results going our way to see finals. Common girls – you can do it!

Pennant B (2) lt Yarra (3) Goals N Hancock, E Robinson

A nail biting game with FHC holding a 2-2 draw late int he second half, only to be devastated with a goal by Yarra in the last 30 seconds of the game. This side have played so many competative games like this and been pipped at the post or luck has not fallen their way for the win or draw. What is positive is a continued effort to try their best for the remaining games for the season.

Metro 1 North (2) def Hawthorne (1) Goals M La,  N Bloomfield

Promotion secured to Pennant D! This was the grand final game for M1N – having to finish 1st to gain promotion to PD (with a 1 team up promotion opportunity for this grade only – the Minor Premiers are promoted only – not the eventual grand final winners as the second team). And to the girls credit – although the game felt scrappy and tense at times – the girls rallied and pulled through scoring 2 early goals to keep the pressure up. Hawthorn, 1 man down for most of the game threw everything at the FHC defense in order to win the game – HAW have a bye rd 18 and this was their last opportunity to grab 1st spot.  Hawthorn managed to score a late goal but it made no difference as FHC held out the win with some good defensive strategies by our coach Fidz…..yes – flying back to Melbourne for this all crucial game -  in our eyes – this was the grand final!

An excellent win for the girls which will give them every opportunity to play finals in their first year in Metro 1 after promotion from Metro 2 in 2009. Currently sitting 4th – this team play TEMS 3rd in round 18 and a win will secure a finals berth. This team has exceeded well above expectation this year.

Metro 2 North (2) drew Altona (2) Goals S Thompson, L Schwartz

After being thumped by Altona in the first half of the draw, the girls were ready for a rematch.  However, the game started off badly with a goal to Altona from a short corner during the early part of the first half.  Footscray were moving the ball around well and had some good passages of play but couldn’t break through.  In the latter part of the half, Altona scored again but the tide was starting to swing towards Footscray.  The second half was definitely Footscray’s as the girls moved Altona around the field chasing after the ball.  The first goal came when Leah put the ball into the net during a scrum in front of goal.  The second goal followed with Stephanie (our DS) beating the goalie with a well worked shot.  With only a minute to go, Altona put in a last minute effort, but the Footscray defense held and the game was drawn.  Well done to all of the team who never gave up.  Special mention for Nicole Smith this week who was solid in defense and Erin Tout who just wanted to run all game.

Bethany, Bethany, Bethany………Bethany Russ is the name of round 17 with 5 goals scored in this game and 6 goals scored in juniors earlier that morning. 11 goal haul for the young Victorian U13′s player for round 17!  Congratulations Bethany!

Metro 3  South (5) def Dandenong (1) Goals Siobhan Blake 3, Susan Dobson 2

Needing a win to stay in the top four, the Metro 3 South girls headed all the way out to Dandenong. After a solid first half, 1-nil up was a pretty good result, although we were tired. However, the break seemed to be what we needed and 2 early second half goals put us in a winning position. Finishing strongly, the 5-1 end scoreline will now give us a great chance to stay in the four and play finals. Goals to Susan Dobson (2) and a hat-trick to Siobhan Blake were the result of excellent work across the field from everyone – a real team effort. Big thanks to the Metro 4 girls who filled in, and special mention to our brilliant goalie, Tayla Williams on her 250th game, and also her 15th birthday – We love you Tayla!

What a great way to finish the last home game of the season with a FHC vs FHC match followed by afternoon tea. These girls certainly know how to enjoy their hockey and have fun on and off the field. What a great season girls. Red have secured a spot in the finals with a bye in rd 18 and good luck to Blue who need to score points in rd 18 to stay in! Let’s hope for a FHC vs FHC final!

JUNIORS

The Hockey Victoria (HV) Under 9 Development Program was run for the first time in 2009 and HV is excited to deliver the program again in 2010.

The 2010 NAB development program will include:

• 4 X weeks of quality coaching with Victoria’s best coaches and elite hockey players.

• Round Robin Gala day after the training sessions

• 2 X NAB TRAINING T-SHIRTS (navy blue and white)

• NAB pack – which includes goodies from NAB.

The program will run on the following dates and times at the State Netball Hockey Centre:

Monday November 8              5:30PM – 6:30PM
Monday November 15            5:30PM – 6:30PM
Monday November 22            5:30PM – 6:30PM
Monday November 29            5:30PM – 6:30PM
Round Robin Gala Day: Saturday, December 4 – Time TBA

• Training 30 min plus weekly modified competition

• Competition – 4 a-side teams

• Quality Hockey Victoria appointed coaches
