Hockey is a unique sport in that it presents playing opportunities right across the family spectrum and at all levels from social to competitive hockey. We cater for boys and girls from five or six years old through to men and women in their sixties who are playing in our Veteran grade teams.
During our Winter Competition from April to September, the club boasts 8 senior ladies teams and 6 senior men’s teams (playing Saturday or Sunday afternoons), 5 Mens veterans and 1 Ladies Veterans team (playing on Monday or Wednesday evenings) and 20 junior teams (playing on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings). There are a number of opportunities for FHC members to seek entry into beginners programs, extra developmental programs during the year, and to trial for selection into regional and state teams.
The grounds at Footscray are amongst the best in Victoria providing two turf pitches, one wet and one wet/dry, and a warm up/training area. We have a large car park and pavilion, consisting of a canteen/bar, 4 change rooms, toilet/shower facilities, first aid room, gym and meeting room. There are large undercover areas and viewing windows.
Located about a 5 min drive from Melbourne’s CBD the grounds are situated just off the Westgate Freeway, near the Williamstown Rd exit – Melways reference 41 G10, McIvor Reserve, Fogarty Avenue, Yarraville. There are a number of public transport options including trains and busses in the local area.
FHC prides itself on our social and family atmosphere. We hold apx 8 social functions each year and welcome all members to participate in fundraising/promotion and social activities. The canteen/bar raises enough money to subsidise many initiatives, therefore our fees and uniforms are comparably low.
The winter season is usually from April to September and the Summer season from October to February. The two main senior training nights for our senior ladies and men are Tuesday and Thursday. Junior training nights are usually Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday depending on when the coaches are available. Our high quality and dedicated coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, captains and members are looking forward to meeting you soon!
