Welcome to Footscray Hockey Club’s first ever NAIDOC Week event!!

The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protection of our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.

We will have lots of fun activities for children to do to help them understand more about sustainability in line with this years theme.

Native Animal Display – Touch and hold hand-reared gliding possums or pat a tame dingo. Interact with parrots, lizards, frogs & turtles. Confront non-venomous pythons and marvel at salt and freshwater crocodiles!

Meet an Aboriginal Elder – For thousands of years, Aboriginal Australians have held Smoking Ceremonies to cleanse places and people of bad spirits to promote the well-being of our people as well as guests on Country. We will hold a proper smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country.

Build a Bee Hotel – This NAIDOC Week you will have opportunities to help attract stingless native bees into your garden. These bees will source food from your garden and thank you by pollinating your veggies, fruits and flowers in return. You can build this DIY Bee Hotel and take it home to paint before putting it in your own garden.

Native Planting – One of our valued event sponsors, Bunnings will come down to help children learn how to re-pot a native plant that they can take home to plant in their own gardens to help native insects.

Try some Indigenous Products – We will have some really interesting Aboriginal owned products to try such as Gurbuchi, which is an ancient form of Kombucha, SOBAH a delicious non-alcoholic beer with a native twist and many other food and body products.

In addition to our NAIDOC offerings, our Premier League teams will host Hawthorn Hockey Club which will be the Hockey Victoria Livestream round.
