The annual Women’s & Girls breakfast was attended by the biggest FHC contingent since its beginning a decade ago. Held at Leona by the Yarra, the 10th year was definitely a special one for FHC as we were recognised for all the wonderful work we have been doing in the area of inclusion, volunteerism and development of women’s members.
FHC’s General Secretary Mel Morton was a guest pannelist and she spoke about 5 key areas of inclusion the club has been working on over the past 12 months:
Access All Abilities – working with SCOPE and HV to design and deliver a hockey program to people with a disability and also working with Welcoming Australia on an AAA program delivered primarily to the CALD community.
First Nations – delivering our first NAIDOC Week event in 2021 and planning our second for 2022 and engaging with our First Nations members on a reconciliation plan.
Mental Health – participating in SALT’s Club with Heart program to deliver better mental health outcomes for our members. And working with Lineage Group to develop a mental health policy and action plan.
LGBTQIA+ – hosting Stand Out Cup for the first time this year. A highlight off the back of many years delivering successful Pride Rounds. FHC are also contributors to Maribyrnong Council’s LGBTQIA+ strategy and action plan.
Cultural Diversity – participating in Victoria University’s Change Makers Program to create a more diverse, safe and welcoming club for CALD folk.
Lastly Mel was questioned about how FHC are able to engage and retain volunteers. This is a huge area that FHC value and we thank and apprecaite all our volunteers, no matter how little or big the contribution is.
Well done Mel, you represented FHC with pride.
