It was a cold and windy day for our 4th Indigenous day at the club, but that didn’t deter the enthusiasts enjoying the festivities at the kennel. The BBQ was rocking, and kids craft, an animal farm and facepainting kept the young (and some older) ones entertained. Indigenous apparel was available for purchase.
Uncle Mark Brown is a proud Gunditjmara man through his mother’s lineage and a Bunurong man through his father’s side. Currently serving as a Senior Cultural Heritage Officer at the Bunurong Land Council, Uncle Mark has passionately contributed to the management of their ancestral lands since 2001.
Uncle Mark gave a wonderful Welcome to Country, connecting the people with the land and a Yidaki (Digeridoo) performance on the Alby Speed Ground. Uncle Mark then conducted a smoking ceremony below the Footscray Hockey Club logo at the front of the pavilion. We thank Uncle Mark for attending another Indigenous Day at Footscray Hockey Club.
Councillor and Mayor of Maribyrnong Council Cuc Lam attended the day.
The Indigenous trophies were retained by the Women’s section vs Waverley in a 2 – 2 PL draw and 3 – 0 Reserves Win. Waverley took out the Indigenous trophy after a PL 3 – 3 draw and RES 1 – 3 loss.
Huge thanks to Gabby Minett and Emma Robinson for organising the entire event, and thank you to all the volunteers and helpers.
