Footscray Hockey Club would like to thank our wonderful local community for making our first NAIDOC Celebrations a day to remember.
Thanks must go to Uncle Ian Hunter for welcoming us to the land on which FHC sits and to Lowey Hunter aka salty_one_here and Aretha Brown for providing us with an insight into what Heal Country means to them.
Xav and Bronte at WildlifeXposure were crowd favourites on the day with their incredible display of native animals. Thanks to the Bunnings West Footscray staff for assisting with the native pot planting on the day.
We couldn’t have done it without our sponsors and donors. Thank yous must go to Maribyrnong Council and Stockland Orion for grant funding, Bunnings Altona and Bunnings West Footscray for donating Native Plants & Plant Pots, JAS Estate Agents for the Billboard, Kids by the Bay Childcare Centre for Marketing funds and Pride of Our Footscray who stepped in at the 11th hour to lend us some barriers for the art display.
We also thank TEM hockey club for their cooperation and competition on the day.
Our celebrations don’t quite finish yet as next week we go to some local schools with Aboriginal athletes Joel Carrol, a gold and bronze winning Olympian, Caley Manzie from Waverley HC and our own Hayley McAlinden from Footscray to talk about their heritage and run a Hockey session.
Finally, thanks much also go to our committee of helpers – Howard Nicklas, Jodie Weeresekera, Gabby Minnett, Caley Manzie, Hayley McAlinden, Mel Morton, Mel Sanders and Carol Burt. We had some great help on the day too from Emily Hooper, Suzie Grosz, Alyssa Janke, Ruth Torr, Ashleah Davis and the many others who chipped in to help with the children’s activities. We will hopefully see you all next year!
Thank you to 3KND Kool ‘N’ Deadly radio for coming down to support the event and share with their followers.
Post your photos from the day below!
