The NAIDOC Family Day was an terrific club day, albeit the Premier League results. We were so lucky with the weather and great support for all the activities during the day.
Coles, our major sponsor of the event provided a yummy BBQ and donated raffle prizes for the day. Mabu Mabu, a local Torres Strait Islander owned business, came down with some delicious indigenous food
Thank you to Bunurong Council and Kelly Lehmann who was very generous with her time to make our event culturally appropriate. Shane and Adam presented a wonderful Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony. Louise Lyons, a FHC long time supporter opened the speeches and club president Nicole Virtuoso delivered the club’s NAIDOC speech.
Bunnings joined us again this year with the potting of a native plant. Craft activities such as decorate a boomerang, make your own native bee hotel and indigenous mindful colouring were popular with the children (and many parents). Wildlife Exposure visited with all their native animals, big and small with an exciting interactive demonstrations and animal petting.
Scrunchies and headbands were purchased off Wurrumay Collective. Adam Megennis of Kaptify will be designing a beautiful piece of artwork for the club which will be turned into NAIDOC round uniform next year.
We thank everyone for attending and supporting the day, our sponsors, NAIDOC Committee and volunteers. Look forward to next years event!
