This is Graeme Thomas (standing with Greg Hopkjns and Nicole Virtuoso), son of life member Eric Thomas. Eric was on the board and coached many junior teams throughout his time at Johnstone Reserve and McIvor Reserve.
Eric had in his collection of memorabilia a left handed hockey stick. During the second world war, to keep the soldiers fit the Auatralian Army encouraged the sport of hockey to be played on base. Not knowing the sport really well, they had right and left handed hockey sticks made!
Although not a lefty, Eric snagged this gem for his collection and for a good yarn about the wartime days.
Graeme played all his hockey for Camberwell as the family moved to the east side of Melbourne.
Thank you Graeme for sharing this with us and donating this memorabilia from Eric back to Footscray Hockey Club.
